Devotional ‘Prayer for a friend’

My thoughts and God’s thoughts

You know ‘you’ best. You know your own thoughts, your feelings and desires. No one else knows what goes on inside you, unless you let them know, verbally or physically. In the same way only the Spirit of God knows the thoughts of God … Or …?

(NIV) 1 Corinthians 2 ¹¹ For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. ¹² What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.

When we accept Jesus as our Savior and King over our lives, then we break with the spirit of this natural world with its worldly way of thinking and take on the Holy Spirit of God Who is weaving His supernatural, heavenly, holy and brilliant thinking patterns in us. Life-filled thoughts, hope-full thoughts. Love will flow directly from the heart of the Father into our hearts. An ‘I know that I am the beloved son or daughter, safely hidden with Christ in God’ settles deep within our ‘be-in-Him’.

(NIV) Colossians 3 ¹ Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. ² Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. ³ For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

No longer will worldly voices enter our ears first. No longer we follow the lead of what this world has to offer. It has become worthless, it has lost its appeal and glam. Because in the depth of our being Wisdom has already spoken to us, sparkling, as the ‘The First One’.

(NIV) 1 Corinthians 2 ^12b … , so that we may understand what God has freely given us. Only through the Holy Spirit we can gain understanding of what Gods plan is for man kind:

(NIV) 1 Corinthians 2 ⁷ No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. ⁸ None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. ⁹ However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” —the things God has prepared for those who love him— ¹⁰ these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.

Without the Holy Spirit it is impossible for a person to ‘un-cover’ this plan, Gods plan, to know, understand and love the Holy will of the Father and to embrace Him. In order to be able to unwrap and celebrate the gift of salvation and redemption through Jesus Christ, and to accept it, we need the revelation of TRUTH by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit of God stirs in the core of our being a godly insight, a knowing and an understanding of the meaning of this gift of Life-to-the-full. A higher ‘God-awareness’. A full conviction of the higher destination plan He has for us, … through faith in Christ alone. Such a special gift of added-value has Jesus released and freely given through His sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection from the dead. The communication between Father and His children is restored by Jesus work on the cross. The Holy Spirit gives gifts and richly shares the mature, ripe and sanctified thoughts of ‘The One’, the things God has prepared for those who love him— ¹⁰ these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. What a privilege!

(NIV) 1 Corinthians 2 ¹³ This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. ¹⁴ The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. ¹⁵ The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, ¹⁶ for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Do you want to be this close to God? Then say ‘YES’ to Jesus, invite Him into your life and be baptized in water and with the Holy Spirit. The good news is: If you believe in Jesus, then you ARE this close to God, and then this IS a fact: you have access to the thoughts of Christ for you have received the mind of Christ. How awesome is that?! With the Holy Spirit of God in you and with you, you have been blessed to bless God and to bless others.

Preparing to pray
Do you want to hear the voice of your good shepherd Jesus better? Do you want to understand His call better and follow Him more? Or do you desire this for someone you know and love? Let’s get quiet then for a minute, here, now. Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to sync your heartbeat to the heartbeat of Abba, your heavenly Father. And then pray with me.

Father in heaven, I thank you for the privilege to be able to think-along with You, with Your thoughts. I have not done anything to derserve this. Forgive me where I have walked and acted worldly, in my flesh. I turn away from the world now and focus my thoughts and attention completely on You, I come to You. I align my thoughts in Christ. Jesus, help my unbelief. I ask Your blessing for a deeper awareness of the leading and working of Your Holy Spirit in me. Bless me to hear Your Thoughts-well, Let my brain drink from this well. Holy Spirit, my helper, I thank You for helping me. Lead me in all truth. Lead me in the paths of righteousness, for the glory of Jesus’ Name. Lead me on the path of everlasting Life. Thank You that I am a partaker of Your Godly nature. Reveal Your plan for my life. teach me to share You and to tell others about You more and more. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
